Hongor Oulanoff
Hongor J. Oulanoff may be Ohio State's best recruiter not named Jim Tressel or Thad Matta.

For the past 10 years, Oulanoff has worked countless hours as the student recruitment coordinator for the Ohio State Alumni Club of Washington, D.C. This year alone, he persuaded nearly 180 students from Washington, Maryland, and northern Virginia to attend Ohio State.

"I believe that Hongor has not only upheld the proud student-recruiting tradition of our club, but his hard work has perhaps exceeded some of the outstanding efforts of the past," said Bill Halsey, former president of the club. "The fact that he has been serving at this high level for 10 years is incredible. I don't know the number of hours Hongor has devoted to this position, the number of college fairs he has personally attended, or the number of volunteers he has recruited, but I do know they are significant."

Oulanoff coordinates the staffing of several student recruitment fairs each fall and spring. This past year, the university requested alumni participation at 11 fairs in the D.C. metropolitan area. Oulanoff manages the fair schedule and staffing and keeps in touch with volunteers in a large and diverse geographical region. He also attends many of the events himself.

In addition, Oulanoff is the club's liaison with the university, the Alumni Association, and the university's Office of Undergraduate Admission and First Year Experience. Hongor coordinates an annual OSUDC send-off picnic to honor

"Hongor is a true inspiration. His dedication to serving the OSUDC club and students is unparalleled," said club secretary Allison Specht. "Throughout Hongor' years of service, he has touched countless students and their families with his optimism and enthusiasm for his alma mater. He is one of the Ohio State's great advocates and embodies Buckeye spirit every day."

In 2005, Oulanoff was honored at the Alumni Associations Annual Leadership Conference with the Archie Griffin Spirit Award for his dedicated service to the OSUDC club's recruitment efforts.

Oulanoff is active in other club functions, too. He often coordinates watch parties for football games. He notifies club members when any Ohio State sports team is scheduled to play in the area and often organizes outings to attend the games.

Oulanoff is an associate at Booz Allen Hamilton, an international management and technology consulting firm that works with many federal and state government agencies.
