Doctor of Medicine, 1976; M.S. Physical Medicine, 1980
Susan L. Hubbell
Dr. Susan L. Hubbell has been a practicing physiatrist in Lima, Ohio, her hometown, since 1986. After completing her medical degree in 1976 and her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Ohio State in 1980, she served on the faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation until 1986, when she returned to Lima. She sits on the board of trustees of Ohio State's regional campus at Lima, and in 2006 she was the first honoree in the Ohio State Lima Hall of Fame.

"Dr. Hubbell's extensive involvement in her field and community at the local, state, and national levels made her an excellent choice for the Hall of Fame," wrote John R. Snyder, dean and director of the Lima campus.

In 1987, she became a member of the Medical Alumni Society board of governors, which provides oversight and direction for outreach efforts to more than 12,000 Ohio State medical alumni. She has been a vocal and visible member during her years on the board, including as president from 2004 to 2006. During her tenure, the board developed the Medical Alumni Society Merit Scholarship, to which the society contributes $10,000 annually, and which now has more than $200,000. Also under her leadership, the board instituted a grant program for medical students to secure funding for educational pursuits outside the classroom, including medical mission travel and conference presentations.

"Dr. Hubbell has played a significant role in advancing the mission of the College of Medicine and the university through her work on the Medical Alumni Society board of governors as well as the Lima campus board of trustees," wrote nominator Wiley W. "Chip" Souba, dean of the College of Medicine and vice president and executive dean for health sciences. "We are fortunate to have someone with Susan's passion for Ohio State involved on so many levels at the university, professionally and personally."

Hubbell has served or is serving as a delegate to the American Medical Association from the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, on the governing council of the Ohio State Medical Association, and as president of the Academy of Medicine of Lima and Allen County.

In addition, she has served in a leadership capacity for the Lima Rotary Foundation, the Lima YWCA, ArtSpace/Lima, and the Equestrian Therapy Program. She also has served as the College of Medicine representative to the Alumni Advisory Council.

As Snyder wrote in his letter of support, "She does all those things we would hope for from our graduates. She makes Ohio State proud and clearly makes a difference in our community and the university."
