University mourns the loss of Tom Moyer

The news that Ohio Supreme Court chief justice Tom Moyer passed away last Friday saddened many corners of Ohio State. There's no doubt his loss was felt deeply at the Alumni Association.

Moyer was a stalwart supporter of Ohio State and of the Alumni Association and he was generous to share his time and insight on many occasions. Just last fall Moyer was the featured speaker at our annual Advocates Fall Event. That day, he spoke passionately about the university and about how it has consistently produced students who have a strong sense of civic responsibility.

He was a firm believer in the university motto "Education for Citizenship" and wrote about that motto in the pages of Ohio State Alumni Magazine.

Moyer, who held two degrees from Ohio State, was a past chair of the Alumni Association's Board of Director's. In 2003, he was honored with the Association's Professional Achievement award.

Tom Moyer spent his professional career in service to his state, his university, and to all Ohioans. He will be missed.
