Herb AsherHerb Asher, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus - Political Science
Dr. Asher is a professor emeritus and counselor to the university president. In his years at Ohio State Dr. Asher served as special assistant to the university president for government relations, and founding director of the John Glenn Institute for Public Service and Public Policy. As an author and political analyst, Dr. Asher is frequently called upon to provide political commentary for the media. Miles AveryMiles Avery Head Coach, Men's Gymnastics
Under Avery's guidance, Ohio State has produced one NCAA title, four Big Ten titles, three NCAA all-around championship titles, seven NCAA individual event champions and 17 All-Americans. With more than 10 years under the direction of head coach Miles Avery, the Buckeyes have consistently been among the nation's elite.

Debbie BlackDebbie Black Assistant Coach, Women's Basketball
Debbie Black rejoined Jim Foster's coaching staff after closing out a stellar 18-season professional career in 2005. Black, who played for Foster at St. Joseph's from 1985-88, starts her second stint as an assistant with her former mentor. She previously coached with Foster in 1999-2000 at Vanderbilt, where she helped the Lady Commodores to a 21-13 overall record and an appearance in the NCAA tournament. John BluemJohn Bluem Head Coach, Men's Soccer
Bluem is in his 11th season at Ohio State. He has lead the Buckeyes to all four of their NCAA tournament appearances and he is Ohio State's all-time wins leader with a 111-80-26 (.563) record in Columbus. His career record, which includes six seasons at Fresno State, stands at 187-104-35 and in 16 seasons as a collegiate head coach, Bluem's teams have won at least 10 games 14 times and he has taken his teams to the NCAA tournament eight times. His 1996 Fresno State team advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals and his 2004 OSU squad went to the Sweet 16. Seven of Bluem's Ohio State players have been MLS draft picks.  TOPIC: Coaching stories


Joe BraninJoe Branin Director of University Libraries
The renovation of the William Oxley Thompson Library has emerged as the top capital priority for the University. The total project cost is estimated at $100 million dollars. The renewed Main Library is the centerpiece of the plan to move Ohio State into the forefront of academic excellence by advancing Ohio State's academic reputation, improving the teaching and learning environment, and attracting top quality faculty and students. Joe BreschiJoe Breschi Head Coach, Men's Lacrosse
Now in his 11th season at the helm of the Ohio State men's lacrosse team, Breschi has led the squad to the NCAA tournament in 2003 and 2004. These are the first appearances in program history. In addition, the Buckeyes won three Great Western Lacrosse League titles in 1999, 2003 and 2004. Breschi was honored as the GWLL Coach of the Year at the end of the 2004 season. Lawrence BrownLawrence Brown, Ph.D. Professor, Geography
Brown began a long and distinguished career in 1966, with his dissertation on innovation diffusion. This topic examined communications technology and the adoption and geographic spread of new products and techniques across the earth. His current work is concerned with immigration; racial/ethnic intermixing in urban areas, particularly in housing; and housing market issues, including forclosures. Judy BuntingJudy Bunting Head Coach, Cheerleading
Bunting has been head coach of the Ohio State cheerleaders since 1987. Under her leadership the program has become crowd-oriented and competitive. Ohio State cheerleaders have participated in the national cheerleading competition 17 of the last 19 years. The Buckeyes won the championship in 1993, placed second in 2001 and most recently earned sixth place. Bunting cheered at Ohio State from 1971-4.  Bunting is a member of American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors. TOPIC: Cheerleading

Steven T. DevorSteven T. Devor Associate Professor Sport and Exercise Science Program, and Department of Physiology and Cell Biology, and Department of Human Nutrition
Devor is a gifted teacher known for building relationships that facilitate learning via his student friendly, open door policy.  In 2004, Dr. Devor was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award from the College of Education, and in 2006 Devor was a receipeint of the university wide Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching.  Outside the university Dr. Devor works with two local continuing care retirement communities in Columbus, where he serves as the Director of their Health, Physical Activity, and Exercise Centers.  Dr. Devor also serves as the Exercise Physiologist for the central Ohio Commit To Be Fit program, and provides all the physiological performance testing for the Columbus Blue Jackets.  Devor is also an advisor to Men's Health magazine.  Devor holds a Ph.D. in exercise physiology from the University of California at Berkeley and joined Ohio State in 1999. Jeanne FleckJeanne Fleck Head Coach, Women's Swimming
Fleck enters her eighth season at the helm of the Ohio State women's swimming program, following a successful campaign that produced the first NCAA swimming finalist since 1995. In her seven years coaching the Buckeyes, she has worked to improve the team, culminating with a 5-5 overall season record last year. Previously she served as the head coach for both the men's and women's swimming teams at Northern Illinois. TOPIC: Motivational, swimming program


Jim FosterJim Foster Head Coach, Women's Basketball
Jim Foster’s collegiate experience consists of jobs at Ohio State, Vanderbilt and St. Joseph’s (Pa.) universities. Throughout his coaching career he has posted more than 630 wins and his squads have made 21 postseason appearances, including the 1993 Final Four while at Vanderbilt. At Ohio State, he has helped the Buckeyes qualify for five-consecutive NCAA tournaments and rank in the national Top 5 throughout the last three seasons. The 2006-07 season saw the Buckeyes successfully defend their reign as Big Ten champion for the third season in a row. The Buckeyes finished 28-4 overall and 15-1 in league play. Foster became the first coach in Big Ten history to win three coach of the year honors in succession. Over the past three seasons, Ohio State has amassed a remarkable 49-2 record at home and a 43-2 record at Value City Arena. The Buckeyes have posted two perfect home records under head coach Jim Foster, going 14-0 in his first year in 2002-03 and 17-0 in 2004-05. David FrantzDavid Frantz, Ph.D. Professor, English
Frantz, who joined The Ohio State University faculty in 1968, has served in a variety of positions in both the College of Humanities and the College of English. He is also the secretary to the Board of Trustees, an honors advisor for the Undergraduate Committee and has served on numerous college and departmental committees. Frantz's topics include undergraduate education, intercollegiate athletics, faculty governance, and Renaissance literature.

Mabel FreemanMabel Freeman, Ph.D. Assistant Vice President, Undergraduate Admissions and First Year Experience
Freeman directs the recruitment, admission, and enrollment process for all new freshmen and transfer students to the university. She also oversees the First Year Experience program. FYE is a university-wide collaborative effort benefiting all new students focusing on a successful transition into the university. The result is higher retention and graduation rates. Greg FreyGreg Frey Former Football Player; Real Estate Agent - Crawford Hoying Smith; Football Analyst for CSN and ONN; Offensive Coordinator for Pickerington North
Frey is the only quarterback in Ohio State history to throw for 2,000 yards in three consecutive seasons.  He may be best known for the 31-point comeback in the Minnesota game in 1989. Ohio State outscored Minnesota 41-6 in the final half and won 41-37. Greg also played baseball for two years at Ohio State including the 1991 Big Ten Championship season. Martha GarlandMartha Garland Vice Provost for Enrollment Services and Dean for Undergraduate Education
Garland earned her undergraduate degree from Tulane University and her graduate degrees from Cornell University and Ohio State. She has been a member of the history faculty since 1982 and involved in central administration since 1992, serving first as associate dean of the College of Humanities and since 1996 as vice provost and dean of Undergraduate Studies. Her research interests focus on modern British cultural and intellectual history. Pete GaudetPete Gaudet Video Coordinator, Women's Basketball
Gaudet, a former assistant coach, is in his sixth season at Ohio State and his third as video coordinator. A 30-year coaching veteran, Gaudet sees his new position as an opportunity to continue making contributions to the OSU women's basketball program while lessening the heavy travel schedule. In Gaudet's first year at Ohio State, the team finished the season 22-10 and earned a No. 4 seed in the NCAA tournament. TOPIC: Women's basketball program


Dale GnidovecDale Gnidovec, Curator, Orton Geological Museum
For more than 15 years, Gnidovec has served as the collections manager (and now curator) of the Orton Geological Museum in the Department of Geological Sciences. Gnidovec is charged with managing a collection of over 50,000 rocks, minerals and fossils. He also cares for the museum's exhibit hall, gives guided tours and identifies rocks, minerals, fossils, and bones that are brought into the museum. As part of his efforts to educate the public about geology, Gnidovec writes a geology column in The Columbus Dispatch. TOPICS: Geology, paleontology, dinosaurs

Raimund GoerlerRaimund Goerler, Ph.D. Assistant Director of OSU Libraries; University Archivist
Goerler has been in charge of the Ohio State archives since 1978. Five years ago he assumed administrative responsibility for special collections and archives in the OSU Libraries. These include the papers of pioneer aviator and polar explorer Admiral Richard E. Byrd and the John Glenn Archives, the Cartoon Research Library, OSU's Rare Books and Manuscripts, and the Lawrence and Lee Theatre Research Institute. Goerler has received awards from the Ohio Library Foundation and from the Society of Ohio Archivists and is a governor-appointed member of the Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board. His knowledge of OSU history has lead to articles for the OSU magazine about the Thompson Library, President William Oxley Thompson, and the tradition of the cane rush. In addition Dr. Goerler teaches a freshman seminar "Critical Turning Points in OSU History." TOPICS: University history; "Places of Heart and Time" focusing on historic campus sites


Pete HansonPete Hanson Head Coach, Men's Volleyball
Hanson is the eighth volleyball coach for the Ohio State program. In 22 years at Ohio State he has posted a 434-251 (.634) record. Last season, the Buckeyes finished 21-9 and won the MIVA Championship with a 13-3 mark. Hanson was honored as the Conference Coach of the Year. In addition to his role at Ohio State, Hanson assisted the United States Men's Olympic team in Atlanta in 1996. TOPIC: Men's volleyball program


Therese HessionTherese Hession Women's Golf
Hession enters her 17th year as head coach of the women's golf program, leading the Buckeyes to seven Big Ten championships and nine-consecutive NCAA championships appearances over that time. Her squad finished tied for sixth at the 2005 NCAA Championships with a pair of All-Americans leading the charge. The Buckeyes also won their fourth-consecutive Big Ten title, giving Hession her sixth Big Ten coach of the year accolades. TOPIC: Team profile

Tom HofTom Hof Senior Associate Athletics Director/External Relations
Hof has been a member of the Ohio State Department of Athletics since 1994. His responsibilities include all athletics department development, branding, creative services, fundraising activities, marketing and promotions, and premium seating programs.Prior to working with athletics, Hof was the director of development for the College of Law. STAN JEFFERSONStan Jefferson Director of Player Development (football) Stan is in his fourth year at Ohio State. He joined the Buckeye football staff in July of 2004 as the associate director of football operations. After two years in that capacity, he was named Director of Player Development in the spring of 2006. Jefferson helps orchestrate the day-to-day operations of the football program, monitors the academic progress of the student-athletes, and coordinates community relations and outreach efforts. Prior to coming to Ohio State, Jefferson spent nearly 30 years as a high school coach and administrator in Mansfield, Ohio and was one of the most respected educators in the state. Linda KalafatisLinda Kalafatis Head Coach, Women's Softball
Now in her 11th season at Ohio State, Linda Kalafatis continues to add to an impressive coaching resume that already ranks among the best in the Big Ten and the NCAA. She is one of only three Big Ten coaches with more than 600 career wins, which puts her in an elite group of less than 30 active coaches across the country.  TOPIC: Fast-pitch softball; women in sports

Play-by-play Announcer
Keels, a native of Cincinnati, has been the "Voice of the Buckeyes" on The Ohio State Buckeyes Radio Sports Network for more than 5 years. He does play-by-play for football and basketball. His broadcast booth experience includes play-by-play for the Detroit Pistons, Cincinnati Bengals, and the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. TOPIC: OSU football and basketball


Mitchell LernerMitchell Lerner Associate Professor, History
Lerner joined the history faculty in 2000, with a specialization in modern American political and diplomatic history. He has served as a fellow at the Miller Center for Public Affairs at the University of Virginia, a faculty associate at the Mershon Center for National Security, and has held the Mary Ball Washington Distinguished Fulbright Chair in American diplomacy at University College-Dublin. His scholarly work has garnered numerous honors, including a Pulitzer nomination in 2001, and he is an officer of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations. John MarkellJohn Markell Head Coach, Men's Hockey
During his 13 seasons at Ohio State, Markell has lead the team to the NCAA tournament five times, marking the only appearances in program history. He lead the team to the 2004 CCHA Tournament title and to the 1998 NCAA Frozen Four. In addition, 18 players have been drafted by the NHL during Markell's tenure. He had guided 58 Acadmic All-Big Ten selections and 1908 Ohio State Scholar-Athletes. In 2006-07, 11 Buckeyes were named Ohio State Scholar-Athletes and seven earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. During the 2004-2005 season the team was honored for having the most-improved grade-point average of any men's team at OSU. TOPIC: Coaching; playing days


Lee MartinLee Martin
Professor, English/Creative Writing
Martin is the author of the novel, The Bright Forever, a finalist for the 2006 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction, a Book Sense pick, and a featured alternate of the Doubleday Book Club, the Literary Guild, and the Book-of-the-Month Club; two memoirs, From Our House and Turning Bones; another novel, Quakertown; and a short story collection, The Least You Need To Know.  He is the winner of the Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Ohio Arts Council, as well as the 2006 Ohio State University Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. Since 2001, he has taught in the MFA Program at The Ohio State University where he is now Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing. Martin's new novel, River of Heaven, will be published in April, 2008. Chuck MerzbacherChuck Merzbacher Head Coach, Women's Tennis
During his 11 years as head coach of the Ohio State women's tennis team, Merzbacher has coached two All-Americans and lead the Buckeyes to six consecutive NCAA tournament appearances from 1999 to 2004, a first in program history. Merzbacher was the 1983 Ohio High School State Champion and a collegiate player at the University of Minnesota. Merzbacher began his coaching career after two years on the professional tennis circuit. Kelley MeuryKelley Meury Assistant Coach, Women's Basketball
Kelley Meury is in her sixth year as an assistant coach for the Buckeyes and her eighth season under head coach Jim Foster including three consecutive Big Ten Championships, a Big Ten Tournament Championship, and NCAA Tournament appearances each year. A former public relations executive, Meury brings invaluable assets to the Ohio State program and has a broad-based background in business, education, and athletics. Dee MillerDee Miller Former Football Player; State Farm Insurance Agent
Miller is a graduate of Springfield, Ohio's South High School and The Ohio State University where he was a four-year letterman on the football team (1994-1999.) Dee is now the agent/owner of Dee Miller's State Farm Insurance Agency in HIlliard. He works as a sports analyst on 1460 The Fan. and assists young wide receivers with development sessions that focus on catching techniques, route running, and agility. TOPICS: Experience at Ohio State and in the NFL, education, adversity, and perseverance.

Former Football Player; Co-founder m2 Marketing
Miller served as a linebacker from 1993-1996 and is co-founder of m2 Marketing which provides marketing services to small businesses. Recently, m2 launched www.coachtressel.com in association with The Ohio State University. Prior to his current position, he was a sports reporter and anchor for WBNS-10TV winning two Emmy Awards for Sports Broadcasting. Bobby MoserBobby Moser, Ph.D.
VP, Agricultural Administration
Dr. Moser is charged with heading the College's academic program, Ohio State University Extension, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center and the Agricultural Technical Institute in Wooster. Under Moser's leadership the college received a W.K. Kellogg grant to realign itself for the 21st century. He is nationally recognized for his skills as an agricultural administrator and researcher. Moskowitz is the founder and publisher of Buckeye Sports Bulletin, a newspaper devoted to Ohio State University sports. In its 22nd year of publication, BSB has a circulation of more than 28,000 with subscribers in all 50 states and several foreign countries. The Washington, D.C. native is also the publisher of Bike Midwest Magazine, Reds Report, Bengals Report, and Blue Jackets Beat. Before founding Buckeye Sports Bulletin he was sports editor of The Madison Press in London, Ohio, worked for the Columbus Dispatch and was associate editor of The Buckeye Leaves. Jack ParkJack Park
Author, consultant, radio commentator
Park is widely known for his 27 years as an Ohio State football commentator on WBNS Radio in Columbus and throughout Ohio on the Ohio State Football Radio Network. In addition to his radio career, he writes a weekly football column each autumn, he authored Ohio State Football-The Great Tradition and The Ohio State Football Encyclopedia. Park is also a respected national public speaker, business consultant and owner of a financial consulting firm, Financial Insights. TAMIKA RAYMONDTamika Raymond Assistant coach, OSU Women's Basketball Basketball season doesn’t stop for Tamika Raymond. As she completes her fifth season as an assistant coach for the Ohio State women’s basketball team she is also gearing up for her sixth season with the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx. As member of the Lynx, Tamika helped lead the team to WNBA playoffs in 2003 and 2004. She was the team’s lead rebounder in 2006 and in 2005 she lead the team in field goal percentage (.551). Her college career at the University of Connecticut included two national championships and a number of individual honors including a 2002 AP All-American Honorable Mention, 2002 Naismith Player of the Year candidacy, and three-time All-Big East honors. BUTCH REYNOLDSButch Reynolds Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach (football) Former Ohio State track All-American Butch Reynolds, who in 1988 set the world record in the 400-meter dash and then went on to compete in three Olympic Games, is in his third year as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the football Buckeyes. Butch set the world record in the 400-meter dash in 1988 with a time of 0:43.29. He competed in the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympics, winning a gold medal in the 1,600-meter relay and a silver medal in the 400-meter dash in 1988. Kate RiffeeKate Riffee
Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship
Kate Riffee, Ph.D., has been a member of The Ohio State University's Department of Athletics staff since 1980, serving as an athletic counselor, life skills coordinator, associate athletic director for Student-Athlete Support Services and now director of Donor Relations and Stewardship.  Riffee directed Ohio State's CHAMPS Program, which services 35 varsity sports. She served on the NCAA's Life Skills Advisory Committee, the training team for the NCAA Foundation Student-Athlete Leadership Conference. Larry RomanoffLarry Romanoff

Director of Football External Relations Romanoff works with Coach Tressel on projects involving former players, fundraising, and more. He is also in charge of event management for the baseball program and football stadium tours. TOPIC: Athletic development

 

IAN SHELDON Ian M. Sheldon, PhD, Professor, Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics Ian Sheldon received his PhD in Economics from the University of Salford, UK in 1981. He served as a lecturer in economics at the University of Exeter in the UK from 1982 to 1990, before becoming a professor at the Ohio State University in 1990, where he is now the Andersons Professor of International Trade. He has published widely in the fields of economics and agricultural economics with a focus on trade and policy issues, and recently completed a four-year term as an editor of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics. Rick SmithRick Smith
Former basketball player; President of Crawford Hoying Smith
Smith was a member of the OSU men's basketball team from 1976 to 1979. During the 1979 season he was team captain and won the John Havlicek Most Inspirational Player Award. In 1980 he served as a graduate assistant coach. Today Smith manages and develops commercial real estate and is involved in real estate investment. Sue StimmelSue Stimmel
Head Coach, Women's Lacrosse
Stimmel is entering her thirteenth season as head women's lacrosse coach at Ohio State. She compiled a 92-90 mark at OSU thus far, and is the only head coach in history of the varsity women's lacrosse program. Stimmel has a 168-108 career record including six years at Denison. Dan StultzDan Stultz
Former Football Player
Stultz served as kicker for the Buckeyes from 1996-2000.  He played in four bowl games and the Hula Bowl (All-Star Game).  He is the third all-time leading scorer at Ohio State and currently is tied for the longest field goal in Ohio Stadium at 55 yards. TOPIC: Stories from playing days


Andrew TeitelbaumAndrew Teitelbaum
Head Coach, Rowing
Now in his thirteenth season, Teitelbaum heads one of collegiate rowing's premiere teams. Ohio State is one of only two teams in the nation to have placed its crew in the Grand Finals at the NCAA Championships five times in the last six years. Lear year's varsity eight finished second and the team placed third overall at the national championship. Both performances were milestone achievements for the program. Teitelbaum is two-time Big Ten coach of the year and three-time Central Region coach of the year. He is also the president of the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. Ty TuckerTy Tucker
Head Coach, Men's Tennis
During his tenure as head of the men's tennis program Tucker has proven that his Buckeyes are capable of keeping pace with the country's top opponents. In 2004 the team enjoyed their best season in the program's history. Within just four seasons the Buckeyes went from being one of the worst in the Big Ten to being one of the best. Rick Van BrimmerRick Van Brimmer
Director, Trademark and Licensing Services
Van Brimmer oversees Ohio State's international licensing program that has been the top revenue-producing collegiate program the last three years, averaging nearly $5 million in annual royalties. His  areas of expertise include marketing and product/idea development. Head Coach, Men's Swimming
The men's swimming and diving team has been one of the most successful Buckeye athletic programs for 60 years, the past 19 under the guidance of head coach Wadley. He has coached 13 Olympians and his teams have been ranked in the NCAA Top 25 for 13 of the past 17 seasons. Wadley coached the only double gold medalist in both the 1987 and 1993 World University Games for the United States. Wadley recently conducted coaching education programs for Singapore, Thailand, and China in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games. TOPIC: Leadership and the Power of Positive Thinking 


Lori WalkerLori Walker
Head Coach, Women's Soccer
Walker has held the role of head coach for 11 of the 14 seasons since OSU women's soccer's inception in 1993. Last year she earned her 100th career win and now owns a lifetime record of 122-105-16. Walker is a 1994 graduate of the University of North Carolina. She was a member of three national championship teams and lost only one match in her four-year collegiate career. Willis, in her 12th year at Ohio State, was promoted to senior associate director of athletics in February 2006. She serves as a member of the Department of Athletics executive leadership team and serves as the senior woman administrator to the NCAA and the Big Ten Conference. Director of the Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute, Woods has been on the faculty of the Department of Theatre since 1972. Woods is active in professional theatre as a dramaturg. A widely published scholar, he is internally known as a leader in researching theatre and aging, and is a Fellow of the Kennedy Center's College of the American Theater. Jon WoodsJon Woods, Ph.D.
Director, The Ohio State University Marching Band
Woods has served as director of the marching band for more than 20 years, the longest of anyone to hold this position. A nationally known clinician on marching band techniques and show design, he frequently travels around the country serving as an adjudicator for band competitions. During his tenure as director, the band has been awarded the Sudler Trophy, was featured in USA Today and "Hang On Sloopy" was named the official rock song of Ohio. In addition to his position as director he is a full professor in the Music Education Department and also conducts the Concert Repertoire Band. TOPIC: Ohio State Marching Band

Dr. Judy Tzu-Chun WuDr. Judy Tzu-Chun Wu Associate Professor, History
Judy Tzu-Chun Wu joined the department of history in 1997.  She teaches courses in modern U.S. history, women's history, American race relations, immigration and the 1960s, the U.S. West, and Asian American History.  She received the OSU Alumni Distinguished Teaching Award in 2002.  She previously coordinated the Asian American Studies Program at OSU and sponsored the 2005 Japanese American oral history project.  Professor Wu is the author of Dr. Mom Chung of the Fair-Haired Bastards:  The Life of a Wartime Celebrity (University of California Press, 2005), a biography of Dr. Margaret Chung, the first American-born Chinese female physician and a behind-the-scenes political broker during World War II.
