The Joe-Ann Schmahl Suite, the Alumni Association’s satellite office on the first floor of the Ohio Union, is open for business.
“In the first week alone, we had over a hundred visitors, with questions ranging from membership in the Association to purchasing a ring to finding out where the restrooms are,” said Josh Harraman, director of student programs.
“It’s been pretty much a revolving door for us, which is exactly what we hoped for.”
Staffed by students as well as Association employees, the office is intended to “create awareness of all that the Association does for students and alumni,” Harraman said.
Students, alumni, and other visitors can join the Association, renew their memberships, and register for programs and events at the Schmahl Suite. They also can stop by for free career and resume advice on
Welcome Wednesdays, held weekly. No appointment is necessary.
Joe-Ann Schmahl, the suite’s namesake, developed her love for Ohio State while her husband, Robert Schmahl ’61, was earning his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. The Schmahls funded an endowed scholarship in Orange County, Calif., where Joe-Ann, who passed away in 2007, mentored recent Buckeye graduates and supported the fight against child abuse.
