 51st Annual Alumni Award Winners Announced

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Samira K. Beckwith, president and CEO of Hope Hospice, in Fort Myers, Fla., is the recipient of the Ohio State Alumni Association’s 2009 Alumni Medalist Award, which will be presented at the Association’s annual awards gala on Sept. 25, at the Hyatt Regency Columbus.

Beckwith is one of 16 Ohio State alumni who will be honored at the 51st annual awards. A two-time graduate of Ohio State (B.A. Sociology, ’74 and M.A. Social Work, ’77), Beckwith is an advocate for hospice care and has served as a social worker, author, and spokesperson to help influence policy makers. Other honorees include:

·         Heinlen Award: Hongor J. Oulanoff (Arlington, Va.).

·         Failer Award: Terina Joseph Matthews (Louisville, Ky.); Mac A. Stewart (Delaware, Ohio).

·         Professional Achievement Award: George Acock (Columbus, Ohio); Russel E. Kaufman (Durham, N.C.); Harry P. Bahrick (Delaware, Ohio).

·         Thompson Alumni Award: Aimee C. Nezhukumatathil (Fredonia, NY); Jacqueline Nwando Olayiwola (Waterbury, Conn.); Daniel Prophater (South Lebanon, Ohio)

·         Mershon Award: Robert B. Horton (Cincinnati, Ohio); Susan L. Hubbell (Lima, Ohio); Velma Vizedom Everhart (Columbus, Ohio).

·         Duncan Alumni Citizenship Award: Edmund Casper (Denver, Col.); Bernard J. Scott (Tontogany).

·         Gee Spirit of Ohio State Award: Tyson D. Gentry (Sandusky).
