COLUMBUS— The Alumni Association honored three Ohio State alumni for their distinguished careers in public service to the state of Ohio at the 5th annual Alumni in Government Luncheon at the Ohio Statehouse on Monday.
The 2010 honorees include John W. Barron (’97, ’01) and Lisa Patt-McDaniel (’95) and a posthumous award for the late Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer (’61, ’64). Each year, the Alumni Association recognizes Ohio State alumni working in the public sector at this luncheon.
Barron has spent his entire career in the public sector, including active military duty and state and county government service. The New Albany resident is chief counsel for the Ohio Senate Majority Caucus, representing its members and staff on all legal matters, including those relating to legislation, employment, ethics, public records, and litigation.
As director of the Ohio Department of Development, Patt-McDaniel oversees efforts to accelerate the state’s economic recovery and growth through job creation and the development of high-growth industries. The Dublin resident also chairs the Minority Business Advisory Council, serves on the Ohio Third Frontier Commission, and co-chairs the policy team of the Interagency Council on Homelessness and Housing.
At the time of his death earlier this year, Moyer had served as Ohio’s chief justice for nearly a quarter of a century. Throughout his distinguished career, Chief Justice Moyer worked to improve the state and federal judicial systems. He was a leader in providing citizens with better access to the courts through alternative dispute resolution and computer technology. He also collaborated with members of the judiciary and the General Assembly to develop a comprehensive approach to resolving criminal and civil issues confronting families.
