On Friday, October 21st, one of SAC’s signature events, the Alumni Awards, was hosted at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Columbus. 12 prestigious Alumni were awarded for their hard-work, dedication, and service to the community. On top of dinner and a tremendous award ceremony, the event enabled various Alumni members to interact and to share their stories and accomplishments to all those who were in attendance.
As members of the Student-Alumni Council, our role is to make sure the recipients’ evening runs as smoothly as possible. Each award recipient was assigned a student host, who escorted them to take pictures with Archie Griffin, answered various questions they may have had, and escorted them to the stage to receive their award. In return, these students were given the opportunity to learn how these great individuals have succeeded, and were given the opportunity to network with them. The event enabled past and present students to connect, which fulfills one of the missions of SAC.
As the program coordinator for this year’s event, I could not have asked for a better group of volunteers. Each student did a terrific job and it was one of the best Alumni Awards I have ever been a part of. To top it all off, all members of SAC in attendance were able to sing Carmen Ohio on stage with Archie Griffin. It was the perfect ending to an amazing night. The Alumni Awards will forever be one of my favorite events of Student-Alumni Council, as it enables students to connect and honor those whom have come before them.
