HOMECOMING COURT SELECTIONS
The Homecoming Court is a great part of the Ohio State tradition. Each year men and women are chosen to represent The Ohio State University as members of the Homecoming Court. These individuals are selected by a judging panel consisting of staff, faculty, and alumni. The court members are chosen based on their ability to exemplify the qualities of leadership, spirit, integrity, and achievement through their contributions and involvement at The Ohio State University.
REQUIREMENTS
Undergraduates who will have completed at least 90 credit hours by the beginning of autumn quarter and maintaining a 2.50 cumulative G.P.A. are eligible to apply for the Homecoming Court. No members of the current year’s Homecoming Steering Committee or past court members may apply.
SELECTION
Several men and women will be selected as members of the Homecoming Court. Alternates will be chosen but not announced unless a Court member cannot fulfill his or her obligations. From these individuals, a king and queen will be selected through a student vote. The king and queen will be announced during the homecoming festivities. The selection is based upon a student vote and the highest cumulative interviewing scores for each gender. In the event of a tie, the highest G.P.A. determines the results.
OBLIGATIONS
Those selected as Court members will be required to attend a number of Homecoming functions including the parade, pep rally, game, and other activities scheduled throughout the week. Court members will also serve as ambassadors for the university during the summer months. They will be required to attend various alumni events and portions of summer orientation. Professional attire will be required for some appearances. Appearances and service projects throughout the academic year will also be required. Each applicant must understand that these appearances are mandatory, and by accepting the court position, is also agreeing to fulfill them.
INTERVIEWS
Homecoming Court interviews are held in the spring, typically at the end of April. The judging panel consists of faculty, staff, and notable alumni of The Ohio State University. The Homecoming Court will be selected based upon these interviews. The king and queen will then by chosen during autumn quarter through a combination of the application, interview, and a student vote. All applicants will be notified of a decision in mid-May each year.
