DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY
Day 1
Depart your gateway city for Budapest, Hungary. (Flight provided for Air-Inclusive participants only.)
Day 2
Upon arrival, transfer to the pier and embark the MS Switzerland II. (Transfer provided for Air-Inclusive participants only.)
Day 3
Excursion: Budapest City Sightseeing. Travel through both the Buda and Pest sections of the city. View the highlights such as the Opera House, Parliament and Castle District.
Independent Exploration: The afternoon is free to pursue your own interests.
Day 4
Excursion: Bratislava City Walking Tour. See the Slovak Republic’s capital and political center with its medieval architecture on display.
Day 5
Excursion: Imperial Vienna. Delight in Vienna’s most important cultural treasures. Visit Hofburg Palace. See the university dating from 1365, the City Hall, The Houses of Parliament, the Opera House and more. Also, see the famous monuments to Strauss and Mozart.
The afternoon and evening are at leisure.
Day 6
The morning is at leisure in Dürnstein.
Excursion: Melk Abbey. Visit the famous Benedictine abbey and marvel at this masterpiece of architecture first hand. Dating from 1736, the abbey houses paintings, gilded woodwork, marble and other treasures.
Day 7
Excursion: Passau Walking Tour. Tour St. Stephen’s Cathedral, which houses the world’s largest church organ. Walk among the patrician houses, visit the Old Town Hall, the residences of the Prince-Bishops, and the former Niedernburg Abbey with Holy Cross Church.
Day 8
Excursion: Regensburg Walking Tour. The delights of this ancient city are numerous. Discover the Roman Tower and Roman Gateway—still standing after 1800 years! See one of the wonders of medieval engineering, the 12th-century stone bridge, and see the Gothic Town Hall and St. Peter’s Cathedral.
Day 9
Spend a leisurely day cruising the Danube River.
Day 10
Excursion: Bamberg Walking Tour. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bamberg has the largest intact historic city center in Germany.
Excursion: Nuremberg Walking Tour. See Nuremburg’s 14th-century “Beautiful Fountain,” the city’s main attraction, as well as the town’s historic, medieval churches.
This evening, enjoy a Folkloric Show on board.
Day 11
Excursion: Romantic Road. Depart for a journey along Germany’s “Romantic Road.” Visit the Baroque castle of Weikersheim. Delight in the medieval ambience of Rothenburg.
Enjoy free time before returning to the ship.
Day 12
Excursion: Würzburg Sightseeing. Tour the Baroque Palace at Würzburg, one of Europe’s most ornate, and see the landmarks in the historic city center—St. Kilian’s Cathedral, the University, the market and the Old Town Hall.
Day 13
Enjoy a relaxing day cruising the Main River.
Day 14
Excursion: Romantic Rüdesheim. Explore the Drosselgasse district at your leisure. Stroll cobbled streets, past half-timbered wine taverns and lively restaurants serving savory local cuisine.
Day 15
Excursion: Cologne’s Magnificent Cathedral Walking Tour. Marvel at the magnificent symbol of Cologne, one of the largest Gothic structures in the world and one of the only city structures to survive World War II.
Day 16
Excursion: Amsterdam City Sightseeing. View the unique 17th-century architecture, works of art and important landmarks such as the Royal Palace, the Skinny Bridge and the Mint Tower in one of Europe’s largest cultural, historic centers. Visit the Rijkesmuseum.
This evening, plan to attend a memorable Farewell Reception held on board the ship.
Day 17
Transfer to the Amsterdam airport for the return flight to your gateway city. (Transfer and flight provided for Air-Inclusive participants only.)
