DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1
Depart your gateway city for Milan, Italy. (Flight provided for Air-Inclusive participants only.)

Day 2
Upon your arrival in Milan, transfer by motorcoach to the Lido Palace Hotel in Baveno. (Transfer provided for Air-Inclusive participants only.)

This evening, gather for a Welcome to Italy Reception and Dinner.

Day 3
Educational Focus: Lombardy and the Development of the Lake District.

Educational Focus: Life in Borromean Times.

Excursion: Walking Tour of Baveno, Intra and Pallanza. See Baveno’s colorful 19th-century villas lining the lakefront. Take a walking tour of two towns on the shores of Lake Maggiore. See Intra’s Peretti and Scaramuccia Palaces and Pallanza’s Palazzo Dugnani, St. Stephano’s Church, and beautiful villas and gardens.

Day 4
Educational Focus: Golden Age of the Renaissance.

Excursion: The Borromean Islands. Cruise Lake Maggiore to Isola Madre, then walk along the narrow streets of Isola dei Pescatori, a peaceful fishing village. Continue to Isola Bella, where you’ll visit an impressive villa full of antiques and surrounded by gardens.

Local Flavor: Savor lunch on the islands.

Educational Focus: Meet the People.

Day 5
Excursion: A Cultural Visit to Milan. Enter the 14th-century Duomo and visit the museum at La Scala, Italy’s premier opera house. Visit Santa Maria Delle Grazie and its rectory to see da Vinci’s magnificent Last Supper.

Independent Exploration: Spend time on your own getting to know Milan.

Day 6
Independent Exploration: Your day is your own. If you wish, join an optional boat trip to Stresa for excellent shopping or exploration.

Educational Focus: Contemporary Italy.

Day 7
Educational Focus and Excursion: Tremezzo. Visit the Villa Carlotta and its collection of sculptures, tapestries and paintings. See its stunning Italian and English gardens.

Excursion: Bellagio. Explore Bellagio, jutting out into Lake Como, with its peaceful lanes and lovely villas.

Local Flavor: Enjoy a lakeside lunch.

Independent Exploration: You’ll have time to explore Bellagio on your own.

Excursion: Como. Travel by private boat to Como. Enjoy a guided tour of its ancient Roman streets, starting with the lovely Piazza Cavour.

Independent Exploration: Explore Como at your leisure.

Day 8
Excursion: Lake Orta. Take a boat trip on Lake Orta to the island of San Giulio. Admire the spectacular frescoes housed in its fourth-century basilica.

Independent Exploration: Your afternoon is at leisure in Baveno.

This evening, join your friends for a special Arrivederci Reception followed by your Graduation Ceremony and Dinner.

Day 9
Transfer to the Milan airport for the return flight to your gateway city. (Transfer and flight provided for Air-Inclusive participants only.)
