ARCHIE GRIFFIN

Archie Griffin is widely known as the only two-time winner of the prestigious Heisman Trophy, symbolic of “The Outstanding College Football Player of the Country.” He was a three time All American in 1973, 1974 and 1975. He received many awards and recognitions photo of Archie Griffinduring his college career. Graduating a quarter early from Ohio State, Griffin earned his degree in Industrial Relations. In 1976, he was a first round draft choice of the Cincinnati Bengals, where he served as co-captain and played with the franchise for eight years. 

He returned to his alma mater in March, 1984. He later accepted the position of Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics in June of 1985.  In July of 1987, he was named Assistant Director of Athletics, and in April of 1994, named Associate Director of Athletics. 

He has been a consistent supporter of the University throughout his career. Both on and off the field, Griffin has demonstrated the true meaning of being an Ohio State alumnus by being a community leader in Columbus and throughout the state. His accomplishments are well known, and his involvement with special interest groups and charities throughout Ohio and beyond has earned him respect and admiration that is well deserved.

Griffin created the Archie Griffin Scholarship Fund which benefits Ohio State’s Olympic sports programs. He and his wife, Bonita, formed the Archie and Bonita Griffin Foundation Fund that helps develop sports, educational, and travel programs for youth in central Ohio. Archie is also a member of many charitable organizations, including the Columbus Foundation, Columbus Youth Foundation, Advisory Board for the ADA’s Advocacy Leadership Council of the American Diabetes Association, serves as honorary co-chair for the 2006 Menu of Hope luncheon benefiting the Children’s Hunger Alliance Endowment Fund, and also serves as honorary chair of the Diversity Enhancement Program for The James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute. Griffin became president and CEO of The Ohio State University Alumni Association on January 1, 2004.

He has three children—Anthony, Andre, and Adam.
